His sire, the young Defender stallion San Giovanni van de Hagenhorst, was one of the eyecatchers of the KWPN stallion selection in 2025. This athletic stallion shows great commitment and has quick reflexes, exceptional scope and a powerful canter with excellent balance. He inherited these qualities from his parents. Sire Defender VDS Z has proven his qualities at the 1.50 m level and is known for his power, attitude, and modern jumping style. On the dam’s side, we find Nathina van de Hagenhorst, who was already placing at the 1.45 m level at the age of eight. She is a daughter of the world champion Vigo d’Arsouilles out of the proven broodmare Inathina van ’t Ruytershof. Inathina made her mark on the breeding program with several offspring competing at the 1.50 m and 1.60 m levels, including Messi van ’t Ruytershof. Inathina, in turn, is a daughter of the acclaimed 5* Grand Prix mare Diamanthina van ‘t Ruytershof, a full sister to the Olympic stallion Emerald van ‘t Ruytershof. They all belong to one of the best damlines in the world. 

It is remarkable that this top performance line is also anchored through the damline of this colt. His granddam, Quattro Stagioni van ’t Meulenhof, jumped at 1m40 level and produced, among others, Till Now van ’t Meulenhof, with whom Dave Vermandel won the first leg of the Belgian Championship for 7-year-olds this year. Quattro Stagioni is a full sister to Nixon van ’t Meulenhof (2nd in the 5* GP of Calgary this year) and a half-sister to the phenomenal showjumping stars Emerald van ’t Ruytershof, Diamanthina van ’t Ruytershof, Ilusionata van ’t Meulenhof and Pepita van ’t Meulenhof, to name just a few from this illustrious showjumping dynasty.
